PORTRAIT AS
TRANSLATION.
IMAGE AS
QUESTION.
A G Ehsan is the artistic identity of Ehsan Ghanbarzad Khajeh. His paintings examine what happens when the intimacy of a gaze meets the mechanical order of the printed image.
Built through dots, repetitions and interruptions, his women appear close and unreachable at once—direct, strong and outside time.

A. G. EHSAN · احسان قنبرزاده
THE HUMAN IMAGE,
RECONSTRUCTED.
The work is informed by Iranian modernist poet Forough Farrokhzad, the mathematical discipline of architecture and Derrida’s ideas of deconstruction. Ehsan begins with his own model photographs and images drawn from fashion culture, translating them into paintings that ask how beauty is manufactured, circulated and seen.
Before developing his painting practice, Ehsan trained as an architect and worked as a caricaturist from 1996 to 2006. That dual background remains visible in the precision of his structures and the economy with which an image is made to carry an idea.
“Painting is a translation of an idea or experience. The viewer translates it again through life, visual memory and social culture.”
